Some of our Team 38 players, along with Coach Walls and Coach Moore, traveled yesterday to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to compete in their 7 on 7 tournament and Lineman Challenge. In addition to daily competition, the team will stay in the dorms, take part in a high school recruitment experience, eat some famous Knoxville BBQ, have fun at Main Event, and be treated to dinner by the Knights of Columbus.
Our Eagles Soar!
It's been a busy week in the Field House. This week was the first week of summer workouts and Team 38 got to see first hand what "All Summer '19" under Coach Walls was about. The team worked hard, probably harder than they ever have before, and for that we are seeing progress. We look faster and stronger already!
This was also the week that truckloads of Gatorade and Muscle Milk arrived. Nutrition is a key component of the new regime and we are grateful to Jennifer and Dirk Smith for their (very) generous donation to make this possible!
Did you know that St. Benedict Football has a rich history? Did you know that the 1996 team was actually a Team Runner Up in the State Play-offs? Where we have been plays an important role in where we are going, but that doesn't mean that the most recent losing streak we've endured has to define who we are or who we will become.
That's why, this year, Coach Walls is drawing attention to the fact that our team is the 38th Football team in the school's history. We will embrace the past but acknowledge that each year we get to redefine who we are; there will never be another Team 38! We will also stress the fact that no one player's number is bigger than the number "38", and that it will take all of us to make this team what we know it can be.
If we want to look and act like a team, it is important that we put work in, both on and off the field. The synergie of teamwork comes from knowing, without a doubt, what your brother is thinking and feeling, from being able to anticipate their next move without them even having to say a word.
With summer workouts around the corner, the SBA team joined together to go bowling (and welcome the incoming freshman). Pizza was eaten, games were played, and a very interesting bowling match of coaches versus players took place (the coaches won!).
Here's to All Summer '19!
